DreamWorks supporting amateur theatre

In the wake of yesterday's post about the film of Dreamgirls, I did a little more research on the project in general and found an interesting little tidbit of info. According to the official Dreamgirls website; "Effective January 1, 2006, DreamWorks Pictures will pay the licensing fees for all amateur productions of the award-winning musical "Dreamgirls" in the United States and Canada." I think that this is fantastic, because many non-professional theatre companies would love to produce musicals but because of the exorbitant fees charged for the rights, are unable to. And it is also a great way to expose people to the show.

Good on you, DreamWorks! (even if it is just a publicity move).
