Come To The Cabaret!

I just finished watching Liza With a Z, Liza Minnelli's TV special from 1972, and I just want to say that it was amazing. It is immediately evident why she has remained such a beloved performer. She is so intense, so invigorating, so dynamic to watch that you just can't take your eyes off of her. And by watching all the extra features, one is able to see exactly how gracious of a human being she is; never once declining to give credit where credit is due, she is constantly crediting Bob Fosse, Marvin Hamlisch, John Kander and Fred Ebb ( the latter of which she claims to have "created her").

In one of the interviews she's states that she is not a "singer" but a "story teller", and that, I realized, is what makes her stand out and makes her so engaging; she is not singing a song, she is telling a story, and damn well at that.
