Happy Easter

Where has all the ham gone? What I mean is, once upon a time the traditional Easter fare was a big ol' ham dinner with your family. Of course, where this custom started I do not know. Much like turkey at Thanksgiving, no one seems to quite know where these things started; but as for the Easter ham, it puzzles me. Why ham? Are pigs more "ripe" in the spring time? Or was it just an historical display of antisemitism (Ancient Christians thumbing their noses at ancient Hebrews saying, "Ha Ha, you tried to kill him but it didn't work! Now we're going to eat pork! How do you like them apples")? Knowing the Catholic Church as I do, I wouldn't be surprised.

But whatever the reason for the ham dinners at Easter- what has happened to them? They have been replaced with Easter brunches. Everyone I know this year is going to some restaurant for "brunch". Are people really this lazy that they can't even throw a dead pig in the oven and cook it? Of course they are.

Well, Christ has died, Christ has risen, and all that jazz. I can't stand ham anyway- I'm going to brunch.
